More Videos of Abuse by US Soldiers in Iraq

The David Mortari video showing a US Marine in Iraq callously throwing a puppy off of a cliff to its death has shone a bright light on the poor state of US public relations in the war zone of Iraq.

Below is a video of three separate incidents involving US soldiers in Iraq and their interactions with Iraqi civilians. In each incident, the way the US soldiers handled the situation was far from diplomatic.

In the first incident in which a soldier shoots an Iraqi dog, the shooting was probably unnecessary, but an occupying army can do pretty much whatever it wants. Who is going to tell it otherwise? Certainly not the civilian who was the victim in the incident.

Perhaps soldiers have standing orders to shoot dogs because the fear is that the dog may be booby trapped with some type of bomb. That is a very strong possibility.

The IED (improvised explosive device) is the most feared weapon by US personnel in Iraq because Al Qaida has used it extensively with considerable creativity.

In the second incident in which the car is crushed, the US patrol of vehicles does not stop. This again is probably the result of fear of a suicide bomber.


But what if the tank had crushed the occupants of the car? Would it stop then?

Did you notice that the traffic seemed to automatically yield for the American vehicles? Give the Americans the right of way is probably the rule of law in Iraq.

In the third incident the US motivation is conclusive. At first it appears that the soldiers killed a few sheep for the fun of it (if you can call that fun). However, a military man informs us that the soldiers tossed a flash-bang rather than a real grenade. A flash-bang is a non-lethal explosive device designed to momentarily shock those around it.

Assuming that the soldiers tossed a flash-bang and not a real grenade, the incident is really more of a prank than anything else. However, the Iraqi sheperd will likely remember the incident with strong negative feelings. Wouldn't you?

In every incident the Iraqis accepted the results without complaint, and that is probably because they feared that a complaint might elicit a more severe reprisal.

How do you think each incident will be remembered by the civilians involved? I know how I would feel. They will most likely hate the Americans, if they don’t already.

Soldiers like David Mortari are eliminating what little respect Americans have left in that part of the world, and they are replacing it with hatred.

US Marine Throws Puppy Off Cliff - Video

David Mortari, a US Marine from Monroe, Washington, was a nobody until Tuesday, March 4th, 2008, but he is finally getting his 15 minutes of fame, which is really infamy in this case.

The marine in question is shown, in a video that was posted on Youtube.com, allegedly tossing a cute little puppy off of a cliff to its death. That's right, this US soldier tosses a dog, only weeks old, off of a cliff to its death onto the rocks below.

The puppy could be heard yelping as it flew through the air until it crashed onto the rocks below and bounced, then hitting even more rocks.

Youtube quickly removed the video from its site as soon as the disturbing nature of the video was learned. However, thousands of Youtube surfers viewed the video before it was removed.

Since then, other Youtube members have reposted the video, and Youtube has apparently decided that a video of a US soldier tossing a dog off of a cliff to its death is okay remaining on its site.

The original real question was whether the video was real or whether it was a hoax. The puppy is shown being held by the marine by the scruff of its neck and does not appear to move, which could mean that the puppy may have already been dead before it was thrown off the cliff.

But the puppy may also have been alive before being cruelly tossed to its death. Since the incident occurred, the United State Marine Corps. has determined that the video is, in fact, legitimate.

A US Marine Corps spokesman stated that an investigation has been initiated into the incident and hinted that the marine in question will be punished.

The incident was believed to have been filmed while the marine was stationed in Iraq, but he is now stationed in Hawaii. Although his name is not being released by the Marine Corps., many bloggers have identified him as Mortari.

The first video is the disturbing video in question. Do not watch it if you are at all squeamish.

Will Jay Leno be Replaced over Writers' Strike?

Jay Leno, host of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Ellen DeGeneres, host of Ellen, a daytime talk show, are both in hot water over the Writers’ Guild of America strike.

Leno has chosen to honor the strikers’ picket lines and has not returned to work at his show since the strike began on Monday, November 5th. NBC has been running reruns since then, as has the Late Show with David Letterman.

According to Debbie Vickers, the Leno show’s executive producer, NBC wants Leno to return “as soon as possible.”

“We want to protect the staff, who have been loyal to this show for decades, in the same way that Johnny Carson reluctantly returned without his writers in 1988,” said Vickers. The 1988 strike lasted 22 weeks.

But the staff is not the only thing NBC wants to protect. Prior to the strike, the Tonight Show beat Letterman in the ratings on a regular basis, earning NBC about $50 million per year in the process.

Since the strike began, however, the Letterman show has siphoned off about 750,000 homes and has beat Tonight in the ratings twice this week.

Because NBC is concerned about losing even more viewers, it has been reportedly pressuring Leno to cross the picket lines.

Vickers has admitted that NBC is even considering returning to production without Leno, using a guest host instead.

Ellen DeGeneres, on the other hand, has been crossing the picket lines to film her syndicated talk show since one day after the strike began. DeGeneres picketed with the strikers the first day, but went back to work after that.

The Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE), has criticized DeGeneres for going back to work instead of supporting the strikers.

The WGAE, in a press release, claimed that DeGeneres was not supporting her writers and was violating strike rules.

WGAE said, “Ellen has…been performing comedy on her show. Even if Ellen is writing those segments herself, since those segments would normally be written by the writers on strike, she's performing 'struck work'. Ellen is violating the strike rules that were clearly explained to all of the comedy/variety shows.”

Ellen’s producer, Telepictures Productions, countered, "as a syndicated show, the individual stations control when the show airs. If Telepictures does not deliver original episodes of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the stations can move the show out of its time periods, or ultimately hold the company in breach of contract.

"Telepictures provides first run programming to stations they don't control. The network controls their own schedule and programming with the late night shows as Leno, Conan, Kimmel etc."

If the strike continues, you can rest assured that the rhetoric will only heat up.

Writers' Strike - Tina Fey, Will Forte Picket - Jay Leno, David Letterman Layoff Staff

Tina Fey, star of 30 Rock, was among the celebrities seen Tuesday and Wednesday manning the picket lines along with other members of the Writers Guild of America, which is striking against the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers.

The writers are striking for a share of the residuals generated by the Internet, DVDs and other media platforms.

After her stint at picketing, Fey reported for work Tuesday to resume filming her acting scenes for 30 Rock.

Also picketing in front of NBC's New York headquarters at Rockefeller Center was Will Forte, a writer and a six season member of the cast of Saturday Night Live. Said Forte, "It's pretty well-known that writers are often treated like second-class citizens. There's not a whole lot of glory in it."

"Without writers, there would be no shows, no movies," continued Forte, who frequently plays George Bush in SNL skits. "These things are your babies. You work really hard on them, and you have a sense of ownership with them. So there's nothing wrong with wanting a fair deal."

The late night talk shows, such as the Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, are already airing reruns because of the writers’ strike. The Washington Post has reported that the Leno show gave 70-100 of the staff their two week notice that they will be without employment as of November 19th if the strike continues.

Since no talks between the Guild and the producers are scheduled, more layoffs seem inevitable.

Now that the strike is a reality, the TV networks are implementing their contingency programming, including more reality shows. CBS is ready to bring out the winter version of Big Brother, a summer reality show winner.

Plan on many more unscripted shows like reality and game shows along with the anticipated airing of reruns if the strike continues for any length of time.

FBI Reported Seizing $2 million in David Copperfield Rape Investigation

Fox News and TMZ.com are reporting that David Copperfield is being investigated by the FBI. The investigation is reportedly about a rape complaint that a Seattle woman has filed against the illusionist.

Because the alleged rape occurred in the Bahamas, which is outside of the US, the FBI has legal jurisdiction over Americans accused of crimes there.

2Snaps.tv has reported that Copperfield allegedly offered the woman $2 million for her silence in the matter. According to Fox News, the FBI raided a warehouse that Copperfield either leases or owns in Las Vegas. 2Snaps.tv has reported that the FBI seized $2 million cash in that raid along with digital camera equipment and a computer hard drive.

The FBI is reportedly investigating whether Copperfield photographs attractive women who attend his Las Vegas shows and then invites them to his hideaway on the Bahamas.

According to a friend of the alleged victim, Copperfield invited the alleged victim to a “lavish party” at his compound in the Bahamas. When the woman arrived last July 27th, there was no party--only she and Copperfield.

The woman’s friend states that Copperfield held the woman down and forced himself on her leaving terrible bruises. The woman used her cell phone to take photos of the scene, then flew back to Seattle, where she filed her complaint.

A spokesperson for Copperfield has denied all of the allegations.
